Strategy Burst

Successful Implementation and application of core business supporting technology

The way we start to define your BIM Strategy is by engaging in a collaborative workshop with you to identify your company's Goals, Facts, Needs, and Concepts that will improve your organization's ability to implement BIM and help you achieve your core business goals. We call this workshop a BIM Strategy Burst.

We will facilitate the work session and together with you identify and document information and ideas that our experts use to develop actionable concepts that will enable your organization's ability to use BIM. With our broad experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Facility Management, and Software Applications and Consulting we analyze and synthesize the Goals, Facts, Needs, and Concepts to develop your BIM Implementation Strategy Plan. This becomes your roadmap to success. The roadmap will outline how to elevate your company's BIM capabilities into a High Performance BIM Organization.

Capabilities Evaluation

Efficient use of resources in implementing technology

We will assess your organization's BIM skills by providing a Skills Evaluation Survey that can be administered through your professional development program. The results of the survey will be analyzed by our team to identify the BIM proficiency of your staff. This will inform the creation of Training Program objectives. . An infrastructure assessment of your IT and BIM Directors will help us determine your network and hardware current situation and capabilities. This effort will identify improvements and/or enhancements that may be needed to the network(s) and hardware to enable meeting the firm's business goals in operating in the future state.

Business Process Improvement

The Business Process Improvement stage will review, identify, and improve your BIM-related process and workflow. Business processes and the work flows adopted for the execution of your projects in a BIM environment need to be aligned in order to reap the maximum benefits from using BIM. In this manner, the firm's values and philosophy for project delivery are supported by the BIM methodologies. This will help strengthen your reputation for collaboration, innovation, environmental stewardship, and sustainability. The Business Process Improvement effort will result in defining a sustainable future for both the design process and project delivery.

Requirements and Guidelines

The information defined in the Business Process Improvement section will drive the development of a standard BIM Implementation Plan Document that you will use as the starting point for all BIM projects. Developing the Plan will also be completed in this step, and will be adjusted on a project-by-project basis to meet specific project contract requirements. The Plan will define the requirements and guidelines to be used on projects by your internal project teams and the consultants that are contracted by your organization.

Professional Development

Increased staff support for the implementation

The Professional Development Program will be deployed in concert with your firm's continuing education program and will provide tools to evaluate competencies, self-report progress, and provide curricula to assist your staff develop their BIM proficiency. The information identified and the processes, requirements, and standards adopted in the previous BIM Implementation Plan development will guide the organization's professional development. We will be available to deliver training on an as needed basis per your organization's policies. We have found that some firms need priority training to address urgent capability needs. Priority Training will be accommodated as needed.

Infrastructure

This effort will identify improvements and/or enhancements that may be needed to the network(s) and hardware to enable meeting the firm's business goals in operating in a mature BIM program.

Integrated Model State

A Project Delivery Framework

To envision a future of fully integrated data, efficient collaboration and organized business operations, this future depends on the ability to rapidly share accurate, relevant and timely information dynamically across multiple teams in distributed locations. As individuals are deployed in the field, disconnected from their core team, easy access to information becomes critical. This section describes a concept for creating this environment, the Integrated Model State (IMS), along with the elements upon which it is built. The core element of this model is a secure electronic data management system (EDMS). The IMS takes into account existing data and information platforms (Business Intelligence), as well as recommending standards and guidelines, tools and templates for the creation (Input) of new sources of information for future facilities projects and renovations, ongoing operations and maintenance (Project Management).

By integrating information platforms, project teams can inform one another and maintain a higher level of certainty throughout the project lifecycle. In creating your organization's BIM Implementation, the core of these recommendations is an idea that normalized project information can transcend software. Advances in mobility and social networking support a higher degree of collaboration and awareness. This is possible through the development of standards and agreement to interoperability in tools, software and protocols.

Reconciliation of project information, through the organization is at the center of the IMS. Project managers are assigned to conduct major tasks in the process and will manage QA/QC processes throughout the project cycle to sustain the information exchange, COBie and related tasks associated with BIM and project delivery. The PM teams form the key to sustaining the IMS; they will be responsible for notifying other departments of available data for reporting and analysis and for validating BIM and project information.
