How GCs Can Cut Project Workflow Time by Nearly Half

The more complex the job, the more important it is to increase efficiency wherever possible.

An Autodesk customer story about Royal BAM International (BAM) highlights the company’s use of BIM 360 in Autodesk Construction Cloud to streamline workflows on the Yas Bay Arena in Abu Dhabi.

These improved workflows aren’t limited to big companies like BAM. They can apply to your construction company as well.

The Yas Bay Arena project presented a few challenges to the BAM team. It was located on the windy waterfront of the Persian Gulf, and it needed to fit into a pre-existing development with its existing infrastructure. The BAM team used BIM 360 to give all the project stakeholders access to the information they needed during the entire project, beginning to end. The article described the project data breakdown in BIM 360, which included locations, zones, checklists, drawings, specs, and equipment. Inspections, documentation and project report workflows were converted from paper-based to digital.

Checklists were created for quality inspections, environmental inspections and for onsite plant and machinery tracking. Inspectors used the digital platform for documentation and for completing checklists. In addition, through the use of BIM 360 dashboards, issues and their causes reportedly showed up more quickly and could be tracked throughout the project.

BAM reported that going digital using BIM 360 for these workflows saved the company about 48 percent of the time that previously would have been required. The article quoted Patrick McKinney, Director, as saying, “. . . we have made a good start on our digital journey, and we need to keep moving to stay ahead of the industry.” Your construction company can benefit from the improved workflows and quality improvements that result from using BIM 360 within Autodesk Construction Cloud. Collaboration and improved document management not only save time, they help manage risk, safety and issues that could require expensive rework.
