As Autodesk makes the move to the new named user licensing model we are seeing a trend in the most common questions asked by companies.

Question 1: Once I take the trade-in, how long do I have to make the licensing change?

Answer: Once the trade-in is complete you have 30 days to convert all the licenses on that contract to named user licenses.

Question 2: What are the steps to transition to a named user?

Answer: There are simple 3 steps, and they are all laid out with embedded videos below.

1. Add users to your Autodesk Account

Transcript from the video:

I’m going to show you how to add or remove a user within your Autodesk account. In order to do this though, you must be a primary or secondary admin. So let’s begin.

First, I’m going to head over here to the ‘By User’ from within my Autodesk account home page, there is a ‘By User’ button. I will go and click that and here I have the users that are currently in there, I need to add one of my co workers. So I’m going to invite the user.

There’s three ways to add users to your account. Since I have to add just one person, I’m going to use the invite single. But if I have to invite multiple people, I can invite multiple people at one time.
You need to follow this example right there:
John [space] Doe [space] and then email within brackets. And you can invite them. Or if you have lots and lots of people to add, you can go to the import button, You can create a .csv file with the first name, last name and email address of every employee that you need to add, and then simply upload the .csv file to add them.

But like I said, I’m going to be using a single user. The user’s name happens to be Dave Morse, and I’m going to add him by just adding his email. I’m going to send the invite to him and at this moment he is receiving an email that says “Welcome to your Autodesk account. You’ve been added.”

2. Assign users to your subscription

Transcript from the video:

There is Dave. Now I must go assign him the software that I’ll want him to be using. So I’m going to go over here and View my Details. There is my Autodesk Software. This is the software that we have and I’m going to see that I have 36 available of the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection and this is the one that Dave needs. So I’m going to assign him the software and it’s done.

He’s been added and the software has been assigned. Should Dave leave the company, I simply have to come back in here and go to By User and I can remove him from the account Or should Dave no longer need the software, I can unassign the softwar and reassign him any other software that he needs.

3. Update your license type to named user

This is a short video explaining the process of taking currently installed Autodesk software and converting it to the named user license model. This is the code I mention at minute 4:20: “%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper\AdskLicensingInstHelper.exe” change -pk 001M1 -pv 2021.0.0.F -lm USER
