Top Plant Autodesk University 2022 Sessions
The first in-person Autodesk University in a while, along with some of my favorite cuisine anywhere (Cajun!), is coming up soon in September!
Over the last couple years we have seen a lot of digital transformation and an explosion of capabilities in cloud services around AI and collaboration. Here’s a list of some of the top Plant classes at AU 2022 (in no particular order).
M502031 | Accelerating Engineering Workflows in the Process Industry with Autodesk Forge
Are you struggling to maximize all the benefits of going digital? Like many industries, the process industry struggles in the adoption of the efficiencies of digital. Whether designing a plant from scratch, modifying an existing installation, or upgrading old equipment—vendor and EPC collaboration for a single equipment tag can still take hours, stacks of printed paper drawings are still supplied in submittal, and CAD assets can be disconnected or are sometimes unavailable. Learn how Emerson has maximized Autodesk Forge software to help accelerate industry digital transformation by improving the digital customer experience. Autodesk Forge is the platform that connects enterprise resource planning (ERP), product lifecycle management (PLM), and business logic—providing a complete CAD configuration experience on MyEmerson and Emerson.com. Learn also how this digital platform backbone enables a future of asset management, design automation, common data environments, IoT visualization, and digital twins.
CES502500 | Insights on Design Automation for Water Treatment Facilities
Resource constraints, cost concerns, and a desire to better leverage emerging AI and ML technologies have caused design teams in the water industry to adopt automation tools to accelerate their work. These tools allow designers to leverage standardized processes and design content to efficiently generate high quality documentation with 3D visualization, while still providing a customized solution to meet a client’s specific needs. These tools can allow multiple designs using alternative treatment technologies to be efficiently generated and evaluated as part of design optimization efforts. This presentation includes a discussion of current trends in design automation, with a focus on water and wastewater treatment facilities. This includes the use of bots, BIM/CAD automations, and specialized rules-based design automation tools. A case study of a project using the Transcend rules-based automation package will be discussed to show the value that can be achieved with these tools.
BES502491 | Beyond Fabrication: Using Revit Fabrication Parts for Spec-Driven Design
Frustrated with repeated model quality and coordination issues with piping models on your projects? Come join this class to learn how SSOE has adopted Revit Fabrication Parts on many of its industrial and manufacturing projects for initial design modeling. Discover how Revit Fabrication Parts can enable specification-based modeling – something that traditionally would have been accomplished with other products such as AutoCAD Plant 3D software. We’ll cover the benefits of using one common platform (Revit) to complete building design, as well as when we should or should not use specification-based modeling. Finally, we’ll discuss unique challenges SSOE faced as an AE firm as we adopted Revit Fabrication Parts and how we overcame those obstacles to produce higher-quality designs for our clients – saving them time, trouble, and money.
CI501581 | Digital Engineering Helped Agile Delivery of Major Infrastructure Projects
A critical infrastructure project needed to be planned, designed, and constructed in parallel and within a very compacted time frame. Design of an urgent infrastructure project needed to be developed virtually during Covid-related national lockdown. To achieve these objectives, a process was developed to coordinate more than 80 models daily. A system was created for projects, enabling daily collaboration between different data sets developed via a diverse range of tools, such as Revit, Plant 3D, Civil 3D, 12d, and E3D. This presentation will cover our approach to virtual collaboration, supported by automation and underpinned by digital verification, which enabled digital construction and digital asset handover. This presentation will also cover lessons learned and how we carried these over and are utilizing Autodesk Tandem technology on the next project.
ENR501579 | Design Validation for Industrial Piping with AutoCAD Plant 3D
Industrial piping projects routinely run into difficulties validating model design against P&ID schematics. Missing tags and incorrect descriptions wreak havoc on schedules as designers work to transition from drawing-focused design to data-centered design. Engineering managers and project managers need clarity in design quality. Learn how estimating design points as part of your AutoCAD Plant 3D modeling gives you and your project management team better insight into project progress, identifying critical paths, and helps your projects stay on time and on budget. (I am a little biased on this one).
ENR501087 | Digital Project Delivery Through BIM: Project Experiences for Treatment Plants
This session will focus on the building information modeling (BIM) processes and workflows for water, wastewater, industrial water treatment plants. We’ll look at the challenges in design development across various disciplines involved and how BIM and Autodesk products (AutoCAD P&ID software, Revit software, Civil 3D software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, Navisworks software, and BIM 360 software) offer unique solutions that have helped in IPD. We’ll also discuss the multiple stakeholders and their collaboration in consuming the central data at various stages of the project. We’ll share real project scenarios where BIM has helped us to solve critical issues that wouldn’t have been possible to solve otherwise in stringent project timelines.
ENR500992 | Collaborate Like a Pro Using Revit and AutoCAD Plant 3D in the Cloud
Multidiscipline collaboration is key when using different tools for each discipline. Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro software helps different teams that are using different design tools from different locations to coordinate design and engineering work more easily and efficiently. We’ll solve the challenge of combining Revit software for architectural, structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design and AutoCAD Plant 3D software for industrial piping design. We’ll share specific workflows using Autodesk Construction Cloud that address both simple sharing needs (for consultants and owners, for example) as well as co-authoring controlled and coordinated design.
CES502888 | BIM for Sanitation Projects
Projects for sewage treatment plants are usually partially developed in building information modeling (BIM) – normally just the structural and architectural elements. In this showcase, we’ll present a workflow using the specific tools for each discipline to obtain the most assertive design and faster deliverables.
